When you sign up for our service, you will receive the Ontech Remote Backup "ORB" client. This client is a small application with a web based management module.

You use this web based management module to configure when and how you want your data to be backed up and how you want to restore it.

Backup

Based upon the schedule defined by you, the ORB client which constantly runs in the background on your PC, will make a backup of your selected files, compress them, then apply any additional security such as passwords or encryption (with up to 448 bit Military strength protection), and pushes them to our datacentres.

All without you having to click buttons or change settings after your initial configuration has been done.

The first backup you make to our datacentres will be a full backup, thereafter backups will be incremental, meaning that only changes in files/folders are backed up during future backups. This has huge benefits on performance, bandwidth and storage costs. In the long run, saving you money.

(Ontech also allow you to make additional full backups, this could be useful if you plan to have one full backup scheduled every month in addition to the incremental backups)

The ORB client allows you to store up to 99 different versions of the same file with time stamps for easy restores. This means you don't have to settle for the last version of the file your working on, but can go back a couple of weeks or even months.

You can schedule your backup to run every few hours, daily, weekly or continuously. The choice is really up to you. Ontech however recommend that backups are done nightly when there is more bandwidth available.

After each backup you will receive an e-mail notification with a detailed report of your backup. If for whatever reason the ORB servers didn't receive your scheduled backup you'll be notified as well.

Restore

Restoring your files is as easy as it was to back them up, you use the same web based management module to select the files you want to restore, the version from when it was backed up, and where you want to put it.

ORB allows you to restore these files to the same location, overwriting a corrupt or damaged file, replacing a deleted file, or the file(s) can be saved to a completely different location.The choice once again is up to you.
